Glee’s Darren Criss Crosses Over to Music and Movies This Summer
Darren Criss is wasting no time this summer. While most of his Glee cast mates are taking a break, Darren has so many irons in the fire that he may feel like he attended summer school.
So, what’s up? Well, he’s jumping into his first headlining tour, visiting 16 cities in North America. The Listen Up tour kicks off May 29 in Darren’s hometown of San Francisco and runs through June 30, ending in Silver Spring, Md. And if you don’t have tickets by now, chances are you won’t get one. They completely sold out within minutes on April 27. (But, hey, isn’t that what Craigslist and Stubhub are for?)
On tour, Darren will be “road-testing” new material from his forthcoming album. A total overachiever, he’s working on an album slated to drop sometime later this year. As to the vibe and feel of his new album, well Darren wants fans’ input. He’s hoping to gauge the audience’s reaction to his new tunes while on his Listen Up tour. Recently, he told MTV News, “It’s really trying to make something as appealing for everybody, that is fun and exciting and young and immediate.”
On the acting front, Darren is taking a big bold step forward, co-starring in Kristen Wiig’s new summer comedy, Girl Most Likely. In the film (due out July 19), Darren plays a fledgling pop star who rents Kristen’s childhood bedroom. Trouble ensues when Kristen returns home to live with her mother after failing as an adult and finds Darren sleeping in her room. And yes, it seems from the trailer that the two hook up. Check it out and decide for yourself:
A trailer just arrived for [Kristen] Wiig’s new flick Girl Most Likely, in which she stars as a woman who returns home to live with her mother, played by Annette Bening.
Co-stars include Matt Dillon and pretty much the only reason to watch Glee these days, Darren Criss.

Darren Criss Will Romance Kristen Wiig on the Big Screen in July
Darren Criss will be in a theater near you this summer! The previously announced film Imogene, starring Criss and former SNL funnylady Kristen Wiig, will be released by Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions on July 19, according to Deadline.com. The film will now be released under a new title, Girl Most Likely. Written by Michelle Morgan and directed Shari Springer, the dark comedy also stars Tony nominee and Oscar nominee Annette Bening.
Girl Most Likely follows a once successful playwright (Wiig) who fakes a suicide attempt to get her ex-boyfriend’s attention. When her plan doesn’t receive her desired response, she moves back to New Jersey with her off-kilter, gambling addict mom (Bening). When she returns home, she falls for a younger boy band wannabe (Criss).
The film also features Matt Dillon, Christopher Fitzgerald, Natasha Lyonne and Robert Pulcini. The movie premiered to strong reviews at 2012 at the Toronto Film Festival.
Glee’s Darren Criss, who plays Imogene’s scandalously young love interest, also offsets Imogene’s judgmental cynicism with genuine honesty. Criss fits perfectly into Imogene’s family dynamic, and it’s a pleasure to see him take his character from being a horny freshman-type to a mature young adult who can please an older woman…tell your moms, Glee fans! It’s also impressive that Criss is able to provide one of the film’s few sources of optimism without being annoying, and he does this by being genuinely funny. Who can hate a positive man who can crack a good joke?

Are any of these three new pick-ups [Stuart Blumberg’s “Thanks for Sharing,” Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini’s “Imogene” and Joss Whedon’s “Much Ado About Nothing”] 2012 releases?
All of them will be releases in 2013. None of them are going to be before the end of the year.
